Prepping Your Baking Pans

prep your pans_featured

Ensure your cakes turn out perfectly every single time, by spending a little time preparing your cake pans. Whether you’re baking a loaf, a round cake or a fancy bundt cake – giving your pans some TLC is always a good idea. Your cake batter will bake up nicely & they’ll pop right out – easy peasy!

When a recipe tells you to prepare your cake pans, its asking that you grease them, so that when you turn the cakes out, they won’t stick to the pan which could have your cakes pull & even tear. Here are 3 ways in which you can prep your pans for cake-baking success!

Grease & Flour method:

At SoBakeable, we love this method the most & do this on autopilot before anything else.

  1. Take a small knob of softened butter & rub it around the bottom & sides of the cake pan. You can use a small piece of parchment paper to hold the butter or a pastry brush.
  2. Add a tablespoon of flour into one pan – shake, jiggle & tilt the pan so the flour can stick to the butter & coat the pan evenly. Pour the excess into your other greased cake pan & repeat! Throw out any excess & your cake pans are ready to go!

Grease & Parchment Paper method:

  1. Take a small knob of softened butter & rub it around the bottom & sides of the cake pan. You can use a small piece of parchment paper to hold the butter or a pastry brush.
  2. Turn your cake pan upside down. Take a piece of parchment paper that’s slightly bigger than your cake pan. Fold it in half & then half again. Fold again so it forms a triangle & then fold it once more into a smaller triangle. Hold the triangle against the pan so you can see where to cut it & then trim the excess. Place the parchment round into your cake pan & grease once more with butter.

*You can also purchase parchment paper rounds, if easier for you!

**You can also place your cake pan on top of a sheet of parchment, trace the outline, fold in half & then just cut out the half-circle. Open it up & hey presto!

Baking spray method:

There are baking sprays you can find at the grocery store that will do the trick too. Just spray to coat the bottom & sides of the cake pan! This method is the fastest, so if you’re feeling lazy – just do it.

Every step in the baking process is one that contributes to the final product. Feel free to experiment & see which method works best for you.
