Baking With Berries

wordpress_berries

Brighten up your day & baking by tossing some berries into the mix! You’ll also enjoy the added benefit of all those good antioxidants & Vitamin C. While they are traditionally a summer fruit, they tend to be available all year round & if you can’t get your hands on fresh berries, frozen are always a good option. Without further ado, here are some delicious desserts for you to try!

Crumbles or Cobblers
These are crowd-pleasing desserts that are super easy to throw together. Perfect all year round – warm & comforting for the winter, fruity & fresh for the summer. To make your crumble, just throw any berries you have (fresh or frozen) into a baking dish. Sprinkle with a touch of sugar or honey. Then prepare the topping by mixing butter, flour & sugar together, you can also include nuts or oatmeal depending on the texture you like. Once it has a crumble-like texture, distribute it evenly over the berries. Bake in the oven until crisp & golden, serve with a side of custard or ice-cream & enjoy!

Berry Blondies
A blondie is just like a brownie, but blonde! Instead of having that chocolatey flavor, the cocoa is replaced by vanilla, giving it a rich, sweet flavor. The addition of berries adds a vivid color – pink or blue berries peeking through your blondies are sure to entice! Prepare your favorite blondie recipe & sprinkle with raspberries or blueberries just before baking (you can sneak in some white chocolate with those berries too, our favorite!). Try these at home, you won’t regret it!

Berries & Cream
There’s nothing better than fresh berries & sometimes you want to eat them as they are, ripe, fresh & bursting with flavor. The combination of berries & cream is one you won’t be able to resist – stuff cream puffs with raspberries & whipped cream, spread whipped cream & berries in between layers of chiffon cake or sandwich them between shortcake. Spectacular!
